Pulling from the archives – Miu Miu Spring 2016

I was flipping through the Spring 2016 issue of Barney’s The Window last night and chuckled when I saw the following feature of Miu Miu wedge sandals…

Why did I laugh?

Because I know that fabric.   It’s from one of my favorite Miu Miu collections – Spring 2010.

I loved so many pieces from this collection, but especially my cat printed mary janes that I wear all the time…

I mean, hell, it’s my site banner image!

But I recognized the prints used immediately.  Here they are in the original show from six years ago.

Amazing.  But in a good way?  I’m not sure.

I love the threads of theme that carry through over the seasons for Miu Miu and Prada but I do find it surprising this reuse of fairly iconic patterns.  Six years isn’t that long ago.  And frankly, the new shoe design has none of the girlish whimsy that paired so well with the fabric patterns.

I loved these designs but seeing them again now, well, this seems like a rehash.

Making Room

I have a storage box in my bedroom that I like to think of as the “Staging Area”.  It’s were new shoes sit until they get worn and have a place in the closet or Shoe Cabinets.  I had quite a number off boxes stacking up and something had to be done.  So I descended into chaos over the weekend.

The Cabinets are pretty much out of room now and required a bit of tough love.  Some shoes went back in their boxes to live in the closet and some are going away entirely (22 pairs!). Here we are in progress…

It took most of the day. And not just because I kept trying on old favorites.

I ended up keeping these BeBe boots.  A wee bit snug but snazzy.

In the end the cabinets are newly rearranged. Cabinet 1 is still black/white/silver/pink/purple/yellow…

Cabinet 2 is obviously red/blue/tan/green/gold…

I love swinging the doors open and picking out a pair to wear.  Plus they do a great job keeping the dust off but still having a larger percentage of my shoes visible.

Yay for organization!

Clear Options

Hello! Happy New Year!

It’s great to get back after the holidays and see the new Spring 2013 shoes starting to pop up here and there.

I was reminiscing about the Louboutin Un Bout plexi heels from this past summer.    I’m still a bit sad to have missed out on these beauties.

But it was good to see the style isn’t going away.  Clear shoes and bright colors are going to be around again.
Manolo Blahnik has the point toe Pacha pump in pink and silver for $645.  And I love this color pink too.

And Gianvito Rossi has a plexi and suede version in a great cobalt blue for $625.  Another yummy color.

I’ve seen tons of perspex heels out there as well.  Looks like illusion is going to be big for 2013.

Cooling My Heels

I have to admit that I’ve been making goo-goo eyes at the mesh and dotty Kate Spade heels since July.

But I know that they I had other shoes in the same color and that I really should hold off.

As the months passed I would stop by the site every so often to look at them and would see that most of the sizes were still available.  After a while I began to hope that they might possibly go on sale and I could snatch them up.

So last Friday, I popped onto the site and saw they had gone down by 25%.  Very very tempting, but I held out.  And literally the next day, there went another 25%.  Sadly, I couldn’t get onto the site until Sunday so I ended up with a slight larger size than I would have preferred, but I got them!

Love the navy Lisa pump.   The color is awesome, the dots are fuzzy and the bow is perfection.

And the candy pink Mildred kitten heel is the sweet sister, with its patent cap toe and flirty color.

When they arrived they were even more adorable in person. In fact, all the girls in the office were equally smitten.

Can you blame them?

In Their Shoes

I just watched this video, “The Shoes of NYFW” created by Textbook for Lucky.

The Shoes of NYFW from John Jannuzzi on Vimeo.

While it’s always fun to see what shoes people are wearing, especially to Fashion Week where they’re showing off their favorites (or at least those they think will grab attention), what I most noticed are how many people don’t really seem comfortable in their shoes.
It’s actually a bit funny to me.  I bring heels with me to New York but I wear them very little as I go around the city.  And it took one day at NYFW to convince me that there was no way I was going to wear heels all day.  Walking, waiting, carrying gift bags and equipment, there’s a lot going on and not a lot that’s easy on your feet.
If you can’t walk in them, don’t wear them.  Or at least plan a quick getaway strategy and a pair of back-up flats!

Pre-Fall Passionate – with JCrew

Earlier in the year, I was excited to read that Manolo Blahnik was pairing with JCrew to do the shoes for Fall 2012.  Two of my favorite brands!

While that pairing has fallen by the wayside, the shoes arriving now for Pre-Fall, are working to fulfill against the pretty heels shown at their Fall presentation.  There are a number of polished pumps and interestingly patterned t-straps. I’d love to add a whole slew of them to my shopping cart!

And I’m still hopeful that many of the shoes I most coveted will actually be made because they are accessorizing the wonderful ensembles available for pre-order in the Lookbook.
Not only do a want the shoes, but I have to admit, I’m in serious swoon for almost everything featured.
These are my favorites:

I love the tweed from head-to-toe look here –

The spectator tasseled heel above is great but I also love the loafer!

I’m ready to dive right in but am biding my time.  What do they have in store for the full Fall collection?!?

Buying Basic Black

This may sound hard to believe but… I do not really have a single “basic black” pair of heels.

Understandably, you don’t believe me.  But it’s true!  Oh sure, I have a ton of black heels in various iterations  – peep-toe, sandals, slingbacks, platforms, t-straps, mary janes, flower heels, with giant roses, patent, cloth, etc. – but not a simple black pump.  No chunky sole. No embellishment. No corset lacing.

What I wanted were plain (not patent), pointy toe, black pumps.  Thin heel. Sexy. Simple.

But, as simple as you would think this would be, I was struggling.  The heels needed to be high but walkable, which in my size meant less than 4″.  I wanted shoes I could walk around the city if I wanted to but still had some height.  I wanted a silhouette that was both sexy and professional.  A delicate heel profile that spoke to me like the inspiration images above.

But 400+ pages on ShopStyle and I was not thrilling to many.

My ideal was the Christian Louboutin Helmut.  I think these are one of the sexiest shoes around.  But I have a pair in blue and they run big and are not easily available so they were out.  The Zara knock-offs were not available either.

I narrowed it down, after looking high and low, to two options.

The Louboutin Pigalle was option 1. But I know how this heel is cut and on me it tends to cut low at an uncomfortable spot on the sides of my feet, plus it’s just an inch or so too high.  I’d never be able to wear these around. Although they are a darn pretty shoe.

The second option, and the one I ended up with, was the Blahnik BB heel.  The height is a bit shorter than my chartreuse pair.   And they are pretty close to perfect.  The topline isn’t too low.  The vamp is the perfect height.  The heel isn’t too high and is just thin enough.  Great profile and great from the front and back.

Considering I recently got black wedges with ankle straps, black and nude crystal sandal-y heels, black and nude Rockstud kitten heels, and black patent beribboned mary janes… these had better be perfection or I’m in big trouble!

Do you have a “perfect” black heel?

Le Sigh – Manolo Blahnik Fall/Winter 2012 Collection

Manolo Blahnik is killing me with his Fall/Winter 2012 collection.  Gorgeous fabrics.  Clever embellishments.  Perfect heel shapes.  Basically my style – classic shapes with unique elements.

From baroque fabric and ribbons to french knots to jeweled buckles, they’re lush and lovely.  I see he’s still using his BB heel but also candlestick shapes as well as well-balanced weightier options. And the colors are great as always.

Here are my favorites but you can see the full collection here.

Red, White and WhooHoo

I love finding gorgeous vintage shoes but you know what I love even more?  When other people find gorgeous vintage shoes and think of me.

The lovely Ashe Mischief spotted these vintage Frederick’s of Hollywood 1960s heels on Etsy and I immediately snatched them up.  I can not resist a good curvy 60s heel.  It’s my favorite heel shape of all.

So yep, I’ve bought these beauties.  Not sure how I’ll wear them yet, but who cares!  Look at that sexy heel!

Le Sigh: Miu Miu Fall Winter 2010 Heels

I have a problem and that problem is call MIU MIU!

They really must stop making things that are so wonderful and so perfect that I have to posess them. Please Miuccia, Stop! For the sake of my wallet!

Here are the two latest “must haves”…

I adore the combination of fabric and metal in these cap-toe pumps.

Double bows!

Those are gorgeous but conservative. Equally gorgeous but less-restrained are these more loafer style with the metal flowers adorning the toe.

Same square heel, which I also love.

I’m seriously smitten.

I’m not saying that I am going to get a pair, but if I can’t have both (I know! I know!), which one would you pick. Decision, decisions!
