Can I See the Sunshine

I’m a big fan of color but there are two colors that I tend to shy away from.  The first is orange, which I love for accessories but the other is yellow.

But I’m trying to encourage a love of yellow.  I used to have a yellow bedroom growing up so I’m still a bit traumatized.  I got my Lemonade Converse, on pale end of the yellow spectrum. And today, I’m embracing the sunny side.

I’m smitten with these Manolo Blahnik Uliepe golden pumps ($575 at Barneys).  Such a pretty color and classic shape.  I want to wear them as an unexpected element paired with colors or patterns you wouldn’t expect.

But… they are pricey and selling out fast, so I’m searching out other options too.  I started with the sunny pumps but there’s lots in the color to choose from.

Francesco Morichetti Platform pumps – $130

I love these, but they are not quite as versatile. Patricia Rosales d’Orsay – $240

These are simple and bright too. Sebastian slingbacks – $155

And to get more summery and sandal-y, you can get these Sigerson Morrison Birdcage sandals – on sale for $435

And these are my favorites of the options actually. I just got these in taupe because I needed a nude low heel. They’re really comfortable and it’s more yellow and grey.  Sam Edelman Orly – $104

If I have to tolerate the summer trying to avoid the sun, I can at least wear some sun on my feet.  Any sunny favorites of yours?

Ensemble du Jour – 10-6-10

So 10 years later, it seems I’ve finally bought into the whole military-olive-green jacket trend.  But I swear I bought this way earlier in the year.  It’s just been too darn hot in NC to wear it until now.  But I love it.  I found a long jacket with the great color and all these wonderful details.

Of course, being a bit more girl-y, I paired it with a tonal Michael Kors sequin tank and a denim pencil skirt.  I love sequins.  There, I’ve said it.  You didn’t know, did you?

Isn’t it cute?!?  It’s by Kayla and I bought in sale on YOOX.

Lots of pockets, which are great, but what got me is the knotted cuff detail.

Here’s a better view of the tank, which came from Macy’s and is now on sale (darn it!).  The sequins have a bit of a camo pattern that I think you can see in my picture above.

I paired this with my camo Manolo Blahnik Sedaraby d’orsay heels.   They’re the perfect green and combine the same mix as the outfit – satin, camo, crystals.

Here’s a better view:

I hope we keep enough of the Fall weather so I can get some more use out of the jacket before Winter really sets in.  At least it is a piece that I can wear forever.

Shoes for a Modern Princess

The term princess is often used in a negative way. A girl who is spoiled and bratty and too “precious” for words. But I think adding a bit of princess to your wardrobe in entirely necessary. No matter your style, everyone needs a dash of the special, a bit of sparkle and something to make her feel like dancing in clouds or walking on bubbles.

The Fendi “Cinderella” platform is definitely for the modern princess. Graphic and powerful with a Lucite platform that gives the impression of floating above the ground and delicate fabric wrapped around your feet.

The Christian Louboutin Poseidon peep-toe is for the sea-god’s rebellious younger daughter. Someone who wants to break out, party and shine, shine, shine.

A flower fairy or English princess surrounded by an unruly scented garden would be perfect in these heels. I love Manolo Blahnik’s Sedaraby shape but with the Impressionistic pattern.

The Swan Sister would love these delicate Manolo Blahnik Eila feather sandals. They’re made for the most delicate feet and need a full tulle skirt to do them justice.

I see these Valentino Fairy Tale sandals as the perfect shoe for Cinderella-in-transition. They’re delicate but distressed. A bit messy but still gorgeous.

Yes, another Sedaraby from Manolo Blahnik but with the rose print they are the perfect shoe for Brier Rose. She loves to surround herself with rosebuds and kittens.

One of my favorites of the new season are these Rene Caovilla sandals. The swirling flower straps remind me of a transformation scene. You could walk down the street feeling as if you were surrounded by singing flowers, bunnies and speaking birds.

I don’t want practical shoes. I don’t need shoes that ground me, I need shoes that help me live my fairy tale. That lift me up and make me want to dance down the street singing. I’m looking for the special.

I’d love to see your fairy tale shoes too!
Fendi “Cinderella” – from Bergdorf Goodman (in-store only)
Christian Louboutin “Poseidon” – Saks Fifth Avenue
Manolo Blahnik Floral “Sedaraby” – Bergdorf Goodman
Manolo Blahnik “Eila” – Neiman Marcus
Valentino “Fairy Tale” – Bergdorf Goodman
Manolo Blahnik Rose “Sedaraby” – Neiman Marcus
Rene Caovilla “Flowerboing” – Bergdorf Goodman

Cage Match

We all know I totally loved these…

But what do you think about these “Cage Boots” from Manolo Blahnik?

Do you think it is odd that they did there is now another “cage boot”?

Also, WTF is with there being Pre-Fall shoes already? I can’t even wear shoes for Spring yet because it’s too darn cold and rainy. I don’t want to think about Fall yet! I swear to the lord, if they start combining Easter and Christmas I’m going to lose it! Quit pressuring me!

In Disguise

For those of you who like the Manolo Blahnik camo Sedarabys (modeled here by yours truly)…

… they are gorgeous…

… there is a new style with the camo satin. These very elegant sandals. What a great sexy shape, right?

There is also a peep-toe “mary jane” version. But I don’t like them.. the heel is too chunky and I don’t like velcro shoes (velcro on $700+ shoes!). And there is a slingback but I think they are too conservative for the fabric, and a hideous heeled flip flop looking thing (WTF?) that I hate. Just my opinion of course!

I kind of want the sandals now. Would that be too greedy and wrong?

Donning the Purple

I was looking back on some older posts and realized I went through a bit of a grey suede phase there and then I was all over blue satin too. I think I just get a color stuck in my head and fall in love with it, obsessively search it out and can’t get enough.

Now I’m in love with purple/lavender/violet/fuschia heels. Not pink, because lord knows I have tons of pink (not that I’d turn more down! And, OMG! That list is from ’97 and I know I have even more now!) And I realized, I don’t think I have any shoes that are purple. I do have some with purple in them but no purple, no lavender, nothing!

Can that really be true? So instead of opening up every shoe box to be sure, maybe I should just get some… ya know… just in case.

Right?

I am currently smitten by all of these. I love the Sedaraby shape. It’s a gorgeous shoe.

But do I prefer Raspberry, above, or Purple? Do I love the Raspberry one because the color is called Raspberry? Is it too close in color to my Guess Pyramid heels? Maybe I should just start with Purple and then figure out a way to get the Raspberry too. Oh and did I mention I’d love to have these in white?

I know I wrote about these before, but, I still can’t get them out of my mind. Dammit!

And now these. I adore these Viva Lolo heels. They’re so adorable and have such a classy shape. The color is so unique. WANT!

I am also seeing a growing obsession for deep peacock teal shoes too. I must be stopped!

Something Old, Something New, Something Changed… it’s not Blue?

Everyone remembers the other big character in the SATC movie. No, not New York! I’m talking about the Manolo Blahnik Hangisi “Something Blue” satin and rhinestone pumps.

You had to know that a heel that got this much attention and was so popular, wasn’t going be a one time shot. Okay, maybe you knew that. I thought Manolo would just integrate elements like the new heel design done for the piece, because I was totally stopped in my tracks when I saw the shoe in new colors on the Barney’s site.

Black –

and Yellow

The black is elegant but so safe (yawn!) and I like the yellow but it’s not as contrast-y as I would like it. Of course, I’m still in love with my blues. They are just an amazing color and you can’t help but stare at them.

I would love this in a dusky grey-lavender or even a icy white. Maybe even a flashy hot pink. What colors would you have picked?

Pretty as a Peacock

I’m not going to use any cliche “blue suede shoes” lines for these beauties because they are just far to gorgeous for that.

I know I’m getting far to predictable with my desire for blue heels but I love peacock teal and I love this style from Manolo Blahnik.

For as much as I love this color, I don’t have nearly enough of it in my wardrobe. Must get more!

If you love the Butterflo style but this color doesn’t work as well with your skin tone, it comes in black as well. And who can’t use another black heel?

New York, New York – Day 3

New York adventures – Day One
New York adventures – Day Two

After staying up way too late the previous night, it took some doing to get up the next day. As it was, we didn’t get going until mid-day. I wanted to stroll through the park because the day, again, was unbelievably gorgeous.

Wanting to be outside and maybe have a cocktail, we ended up at The Boathouse in Central Park.

It was the perfect place to be for the next few hours. We grabbed a tall table and ordered a plate of fruit and cheese. My friend had a vodka tonic while I had (quite a few) Kir Royales. Being that I don’t drink all that often and somehow I got the idea that four (!!!) Kirs were somehow in order, I was a bit tipsy (hic!) as we left the restaurant.

I’m not going to say I was drunk but it may have been less than a great idea to try and figure out a new subway line while being tipsy AND late to meet up with Miss Gala Darling at Magnolia Bakery for an obligatory cupcake tasting.

It was early afternoon on a Thursday and yep, there was a line. But still, we were chatting and in no rush.

I have the Magnolia Bakery cookbook and have tried to make their cupcakes and icing before. It wasn’t my favorite icing of all time, but I was game to try an original. We got in line and grabbed our box and each took two cupcakes. I got a chocolate chocolate and a red velvet. Don’t they look tasty?

I started with my chocolate one and I have to say, the icing on it was pretty darn good! Very fluffy. If you want more images, check out Paris Breakfast’s post here. We sat in a little park across the street and chatted as we enjoyed our treats.

After that we walked around a bit, saw Carrie’s steps and stopped in a Batch for another cupcake sample. I got us both a cupcake – mine was lemon with a lemon curd center (I ate it later and it was delish!).

We went into a novelty store and looked masks and then went to a Marc Jacob sample store. After an hour or two we both had to run off to other appointments but it was really great to meet her in person. She’s a sweetie!

During the day, I’d been wearing my red Gap v-neck light sweater with my denim skirt and my red snakeskin Manolo mary janes. I walked all over and I have to say, I think these were more comfortable to wear than my flats.

That night we went to dinner at Ruby Foo’s – Uptown not Times Square. It wasn’t bad. I’m not sure if it would have been my pick but this was sort of a “thank you for letting me stay” dinner so I didn’t do the picking. The restaurant itself was nice but it kept playing really bad 80s music. Not sure what that was about.

To dinner I wore my sequin skirt from YOOX and a simple black v-neck. I had my black heels but ended up wearing flat more since we walked all around for a while. We stopped into a small clubby bar and had a final night cap. I got a St. Germain, which may now be my new favorite drink. I love champagne and I live elderflower presse. What could be a more perfect drink!

That night I was up super late. I was not scheduled to fly out until 7pm on Friday but when I woke up I was missing home a bit. Since I’d been able to see much of what I wanted, I decided to push up my flight. I got a flight home mid-day and am now back with all my new goodies.

I love New York, but I think next time I’d prefer to go with the hubby. New York is such a beautiful city filled with unique and romantic opportunities. It was a bit sad to be there with out him.

UPDATED: I forgot to mention that we did see a bunch of girls going to the midnight (?) showing of SATC movie. There was much shrieking and wearing of their best SATC outfits and shoes. I’m kind of glad that I wasn’t a part of that group.
