What a Minx

A great lifestyle shot of gorgeous shoes in action goes a long way to peak my interest.

Case in point – How fabulous do these Nasty Gal Minx lucite heels look in this shot?

They’re so breezy and summery.  I love the almond toe and cruelty-free materials.  Plus the heel is so fun.

And for $88 they are on trend but inexpensive enough to not worry if they are too seasonal or trendy.

Now if they only started at a size 35, I’d be set!

Ensemble du Jour – June 20, 2013

Oh my house…

It’s determined to not let me get any good outfit shots.   That’s what you get with an old house that isn’t well lit.   But you can sort of make out that I’m wearing a white JCrew button-down, white brown belt and khaki pencil skirt.

Right?  Right?

Paired with a pair from way back – Ralph Lauren wingtip cap-toe slingbacks.

I do love these.  I’ve always thought they were so classy.

It hasn’t been too horribly warm here yet, so I’m enjoying actually being comfortable outside.

We’ll see how long that lasts!

Seeing Stripes

I’m finally able to wear some of my new Spring dresses.

I loved the classic black and white broad stripe dress from The Limited. It will be perfect to combine with tons of colors and other patterns.

I paired it with a bright pink JCrew cardigan and my JCrew Liza Peep-toe heels in the Cherry Blossom print.

It’s going to be dresses all Spring and Summer, with lots of color!

Yeah!  An outfit post!

I really need to try to find time to take these in the morning because, as you can see, the lighting in my house is “dim” to put it kindly. Dismal and cave-like would be more appropriate.

But, I was so happy with my outfit today I decided to take some shots anyways.  I made the mistake of going into Target last night and ended up with a bunch of stuff. Some of it needed, none of it pricey ($8 tanks, tees and yoga capris, yes please! $19 comfy cute dresses, okay! Robe so I stop scaring the neighbors, yep!) and perfect for wearing to work and on weekends.

The first thing I wanted to wear was this really cute stripey jersey tank dress. And then I saw the bright apple green 3/4 sleeve cardi.  I have to admit here that I am hopeless at mixing patters.  I love it on others, aspire to it and then fall into the trap of matchy-matchy all the time.  So here’s my happy little mixing outfit… I paired black and white stripes with a leopard belt and shoes.

WHOA!!!!

I know, I know, CRAZY TIME!!!!

This dress is so cute I got in solid red too.  Get ready for, wait for it… color-blocking!  Shut the font door!

It does have this nice little princess-seaming element.  Not a bad little detail for a less-than-$20 dress.

I’m loving the color/pattern combo.

For jewelry, I’m also mixing but more like matching – my Wendy Brandes “Chicken on Nest” necklace and my new “vegan” hen necklace from Julep115 via Etsy.

For shoes I wore my Coach (circa 2003-2004???) Tully leopard/oscelot kitten heels.
I do love a good kitten heel.

Grosgrain bows and heel detail.

I took a bunch more shots tonight so I have a lot to share over the next few days.
Onward into year five!

Smitten – Prada Minimal Baroque Sunglasses

I am not a sunglasses person typically, but I have to admit I was totally smitten by the Prada Minimal Baroque sunglasses collection. They are all just so gorgeous and Alphonse Mucha-esque, that they’re like art for your face.

So I was thrilled beyond words to get a pair in white.  They’re even better in person.  Whimsical and classic all at the same time.

You’re going to be seeing these a lot this summer.  What is a better “summer white” than white sunglasses?

I now have a pair of “sisters” sunglasses – Miu Miu in black and Prada in white.

Even though the days are still cool, the bright skies feel like Spring.  It doesn’t feel right to wear dark tones.  It’s time for color!

I started with the shoes and worked from there.  I paired a tomato red Gap sweater, with a khaki pencil skirt and grey and white Nautica scarf.

I love this butterfly pin.  It was my grandmother’s and is very intricate with movable wings.  I thought wearing it as a pin would be a nice tie back to my shoe details.

I just got these gorgeous crochet tights from Sock Dreams.  They’re so beautiful.  I plan on wearing them with an airy white dress and oxfords this summer.

But, yep, it was all about the shoes!  I just received three (!!!) pairs of custom Hetty Rose shoes and these are the first to be unveiled.  I’m going to do some more romance shots but I couldn’t wait to share!

I’m smitten by so many of her fabrics. It’s hard to choose just one.  I love the butterflies, outlined in metallic ink with large embroidered butterflies in silver thread.

This design is the Amalie, which is my favorite shape.  A perfect round-toe pump paired with glorious fabrics.  How can you resist?

Ensemble du Jour – 9-20-10

This is pretty typical work outfit: Merona cardigan, black cami and black and white houndstooth skirt – all from Target.

I have a ton of basic clothes from Target.  But since I’m not shopping there while they continue to support politicians who advocate against human rights, I’m going to have to branch out to other options… and cut back, which I need to do anyways.

The shoes are “Jessica” by Lilibee.  I’ve had these for a while and I like that they are a neat little spin on the typical black patent mary jane. Details like the stacked wood inset on the heel, the large shiny buckles and the fun oversized cord stitching.

My work outfits can vary quite a bit based on my mood (and what’s new in my closet) – from a tulle skirt to triple-laced-up knee-high boots, but this straight-forward look is almost a uniform… and helps be get out of the house when I’m running late.

Ensemble du Jour – 6-23-10

More pink and green but this time it was leaning towards the preppy side, I guess.

This really is one of my favorite skirts.

It’s hard to tell but the fabric is a tiny green and white stripe which is then embroidered with a beautiful hot pink pattern on the front.

I paired this with a white knit v-neck top and white patent tassled heels from Charles David.

I even put on a wide headband with large green and white stripes but I can only wear them for a short while. I end up getting a massive headache, sadly.

I think white shoes get a bad rap. I don’t know why. I love white shoes, especially in patent.

I mean, how classic and classy are these?

The top is from Target, the skirt from Anthropologie (ages ago) and the heels are Charles David, also from 6+ years ago.
