Ensemble du Jour – Graceful in Greenery

I am so excited to be wearing my Spring/Summer dresses. I’m sure I’ll be complaining about the heat soon, but as of right now, the weather was balmy and the sun was bright.

I paired my ModCloth Graceful Greenery dress with a lavender cardigan and for shoes, I wore it with chartreuse Manolo Blahnik Sedarabys (for work) and then lupine Converse Chucks (for play).

I love the photo print of a cool floral-filled and wooded glen…

A vintage purse goes perfectly with this dress…

I hope you had a great holiday as well!

Instant Access – 11/7 – 12/3

I swear once the year hits September, the days and weeks just fly by until the end of the year.  There is so much going on it feels like we need 3 extra weekends a month just to fit it in.

And the weather has been crazy here too.  From days in the 70s around Thanksgiving to rain to cold-cold-cold!  What’s going on.

Just from looking at all the recent shoes that happened these past weeks, you can see how all over the place the temperatures have been.

Manolo Blahnik Erratic mary janes with tonal fishnet tights…

The Aldo leopard slipper loafers came in from ASOS and were promptly worn.

I love these mustard tights, especially with warm brown.

Gossip girl inspired outfits and spat-style boots

Short-work-week Converse.

And a sneak peak at some early Resort/Spring Blahnik Sammys

Finally there was some tight-wearing weather so I got to wear these new dotted Hue tights.

But then it was warm enough for bringing out my easily 10-year-old Jimmy Choos.

I do love some of the details in my shoes, like these little cutouts on my Report pumps.

And as many shoe changes, there were almost as many new polishes combos to try.  From China Glaze’s It’s Alive (a wonderful dark green glitter)…

to Revlon’s Starry Pink over Revlon’s Metallic

Essie’s Forget Me Knot (which was worn with the ASOS heart sweater below and matched perfectly!) …

The coveted OPI Rainbow Connection

A perfect gray – OPI’s Concrete Catwalk

And another shimmery green in Zoya’s Edyta

I did get one day of wearing some fabulously tonal accessories.

And it’s the season of shopping to, so I may have bought a few things, like a new macro lens for my DSLR.

A few necessaries at Ulta

Chanel’s Rouge Allure Velvet matte lipsticks had to be mine.

Okay, so I went a bit overboard on the nail polish deals on Amazon.

My Express sparkly skirt was even more magical in person.  I’m in love!

Hearts and dots!

And TONS of baking!!!!

Apple oat muffins

Pumpkin Chocolate chip

Birthday surprise cake pops

And libations galore…

Cheers!

Back to Basics

Maybe its the fact that I’ve been a slacker for two weeks but I’ve been wanting more casual stuff.  Tees and sneakers. Of course I could drop a quick grand at JCrew because I’m always in love with their glam preppy style but what I’m tracking down right  now is this girly jersey shirt.  I actually saw it in a restaurant’s shop with their slogan on it, but they stopped carrying the product.  While I would have loved their branded shirt too, I’m happy with the plain, as long as I can get the fuchsia on pink and the pink on chocolate.   I even have some matching sneakers to wear with them!

And speaking of sneakers, I can’t stop thinking about buying more. Maybe it is the influence of all that oxford-wearing in the Fall, or the fact that I’ve barely put on anything other than Sorels, wellies or my Moroccan slippers for the last two weeks, but I’m not shopping the sales for heels.  I’m wanting tons of sneakers!
I’m particularly wanting the be-ribboned Satire sneakers from Simple.   I really love the brown (bison) and blue ribbon combination on the hemp ones here.

But the charcoal grey and pink is sweet as well.  And those grommets will keep your feet cool too, I bet.

And the black and sky blue is great too.

I’ve found the prices for this brand varies all over the web.  It’s best to do a search and see what you can find, but the range as been from $25 – $60. They have some other sweet styles like cute oversized gingham in pale pink and a light tan that I’m also keeping my eye on.

But the real classics I love, besides Keds of course, are Converse Chuck Taylors. I started with white high-tops and off-white/natural low-tops, then got red low-tops, sequin ones and pink high-tops. I’m obsessed.

I really want to get a pair of basic black ones, but have held off.  Maybe now is the time.

But Converse does some amazing seasonal colors.  Right now their rolling out their Spring seasonal colors and they are just too adorable.   If I could, I’d get them all but since I have to narrow it down, I think I want this gorgeous lavender “Lupine”.  I’d wear it with a sparkly necklace and lavender cardigan paired with jeans, a denim skirt or even dressing down a pencil skirt.

And this yellow, and yellow isn’t even a color I really wear, has sucked me in.  It’s called “Lemonade” on  the site but it reminds me of the light yellow SweeTarts. I needs them!

Okay, I need to go troll the web for some coupon codes, because I think I am going to have to get them all!

Classic Comfort

I’m not really a flip flops kind of girl but I do like to take a break from heels every now and then. In the Summer especially we’re doing a lot of running around and walking to events so I actually need to wear flat shoes.

I tend to prefer the classic comfort options of ballet flats, Keds, Topsiders and Converse.

I’m just as picky about my flat shoes being fun and interesting as I am for the heels. I love ballet flats with color, pattern and detail. Last summer I nabbed this preppy striped pair from American Eagle but Old Navy and JCrew have cute options with color and embellishments as well.

I’m a recent Chuck Taylor Converse devotee and can’t live with out them now. I have low tops in red and in silver sequins but a cute pair of high-tops in bubble-gum pink. I’m debating a black pair or maybe a pair of custom created ones from the Converse website.

If I ever had to limit my shoe closet down to a ridiculous low number (like under 10 or something), I can guarantee you that Keds Champion classics in white canvas would make the cut. I can’t remember a time I haven’t had a pair or two of these in my closet. There used to be a high top version which I had in high school and I miss them terribly. I think I could wear these 80% of the time and not feel out of place.

Right now I’m wearing these Sperry Topsiders in this great green. These are another shoe from my childhood. My Dad always wore them on weekends and I love my pair now. They do come in some great colors (although I think my green ones are out of stock). I’m currently debating if I need a pair of bright pink patent ones.

What are your go to comfort shoes for the Summer?

Elements of Sunday

When I don’t have the hubby around to take decent shots, I get stuck with my own efforts at self portraiture which doesn’t work when you can’t remember how to use the timer on the good camera.

So this is all I’ve got.

On Sunday, the dogs were still in boarding so we got up, took care of the other pets and went out for a late breakfast.

I wore my JCrew v-neck sweater with the sparkly Scottie dog, Gap jeans cuffed with sequin Chucks and my mini-retro case.

Then I came home and took a nap. Did you have a good weekend?

Raising Eyebrows?

Not sure if I’m getting predictable or if the people I’m around are becoming desinsitized to me but I wore some slightly “out there” outfits (comparatively, for NC) and no one batted an eye.

Is this a good thing or what? I’m not sure.

The outfit I wore with my glitter heels and TokyoMade Chapter ring what otherwise kind of basic:

Then on Friday I wore a stripey jacket, my derby and saddle shoes (wish I could have worn my Viktor & Rolf paperclip eyelashes too).

Today I went out for lunch (and vintage shopping… more on that later…) and wore a shiny silver skirt, sequin Chucks, my boater, a green top with my parasol and a vintage straw purse.

Okay, so maybe these aren’t too out there but they were fun.

I’ve tried to stick to a palette but I just can’t do it. I love too many colors! And glitter! And sequins! And vintage! I know there are some things I don’t wear and pieces and colors I wear more than others but I’m just trying to enjoy what I buy. Hopefully it will last and hopefully I won’t get bored by it. That’s becoming more of a goal for me. I’m sort of all over the place but that’s okay…. Right?

Calling all Magpies

It is becoming more and more apparent that I’m obsessed with sequined thing. I just can’t get enough!

I mean, I have the 3 sequined Manolos, the lovely black Oh Deer! Jamocha’s and as I look through the closet, all this!

I got this skirt from YOOX last year in the after Christmas sales. It is probably the cause of all this madness.

Then a cute little dress on the cheap from Old Navy. I wear this with tough strappy sandals, a boyfriend cardigan and a belt.

I love JCrew’s embellished tees… even if they are over-priced. I don’t like crewnecks but I like wearing this under blazers.

I had to swipe Gala’s same sequin hoodie. It was just too cute and too reasonable not to. For $20-something bucks from Forever 21, this is really well made.

I also got this cardigan from there…

… and this v-neck. Why, yes, I do like black sequins.

I was VERY excited to get my silver sequin Chuck. I mean, how adorable are these?!? Love them!

And last night I went to Target (evil place!) and saw this tee shirt in black with black sequins. Feather detail done in sequins? Yes, please! And only $10.

I am actually wearing it right this second! It is a crew neck, but I’m wearing it, predictably, under a (grey wool) jacket. I love it!!!

Do you ever find yourself organizing your closet and realize you have become obessed with something?
I think I need to step away from the sequins.

Weekend Warriors

I was never that big into sneakers. I pretty much wore classic Keds Champions all growing up and still do (white or navy only).

But I also totally dig Converse Chuck Tayors low-tops and high tops. They’re just as classic but are sportier, less preppy. And while I have white and off-white, I think I like the colors even better. Gap has a great range of the colors this Summer with a great blue – very in line with the Color of the Year, a muted red – a hold over from 2007’s COTY, bright yellow and a perfect-for-summer grass green (currently being seen all over the place this year). I like the light black low tops on the bottom left too.

Of course, my red pair from the Fall are awesome too.

I’ve also seen some done in silver and black sequins which I may just have to get. It will be hard to decide which color. Both are delish.

Target & Converse

I was in Target the other day (even though I totally should not have been!) and I saw that the Target Converse One Star line would out in force.

If your a fan of Converse but find their typical prices too high, then these are for you. Now I’m a big fan of the Chuck Taylors. I have low tops and high tops in white, cream and red. So I liked the options in this line a lot. At first I thought about getting these candy pink ones from the kids line. They were only about $20.

Then I saw these light pink ones with the scrolly black vines on them. In the store they were not slip ons. I liked these even better but the adult ones were $35! So I ended up putting them both back (along with a whole cart-full of clothes. Seriously, I have a problem. I cannot go in there without supervision).

They have plain light pink ones for five dollars less. I didn’t see these cute buttery yellow ones with the white dots or I would have been tempted by them too.

The line has shoes for men, women, boys and girls and they are also doing a bunch of apparel. You can see everything in the link above. Most of the clothes are athletic or casual, like this henley. I think it’s cute but I’m kind of skeptical about that star placement.

What’s up with that?

But they have a few really cute items like this dress. Not what I would expect from the Converse line, right?

What a cute drawstring neckline. I know it would look horrible on me so I hope someone out there goes and gets this because I just love it.

Not to be snarky but this looks more like a Keds dress to me.
